In 1915, Mario DeBenedetti began baking hearty Italian breads in Lockport, IL, using family recipes he brought over from his homeland. He called his bakery Milano, after the Italian City he remembered from his youth. Demand for his fresh baked goods grew quickly and in 1926 the Milano Bakery moved to its current location at 427 South Chicago St., Joliet, IL 60436. Today, his children and grandchildren carry on the tradition in that same location, turning out delicious hearth-baked breads and rolls, that are available in grocery stores and restaurants throughout Chicagoland. A retail store is located at the bakery that offers breads, rolls, cakes, cookies and other sweets, made from scratch, every day.
